About the Connecticut Blood Services Region
Our Mission
The mission of the American Red Cross, Connecticut Blood Services Region is to partner with the community to provide a safe and sufficient blood supply for patients at the state’s 31 transfusing hospitals and acute care facilities. The Red Cross relies entirely on volunteer blood donors to meet the transfusion needs across Connecticut. The Red Cross needs to collect at least 650 units of whole blood each day to meet patient demand in the State. This is possible only with your help. The need for blood is constant.
Consider Yourself Asked
We're issuing an open invitation to regular blood donors, donors who haven't given blood in 
awhile and, especially, to people who have never rolled up their sleeves to give the gift of life.
Please consider yourself asked and give blood. Studies have shown that people say they've never given blood because they've never been asked. We’re extending this invitation to everyone eligible to give blood throughout New England.

Patient Stories
Each day, approximately 650 units of blood are needed just to meet the basic needs of hospitals across Connecticut. Blood is used for many surgical procedures, bone marrow transplants, trauma and chemotherapy. For some patients, such as the victim of an automobile accident, the need for blood is sudden. For others, ongoing transfusions are needed to sustain lifesaving medical treatment.
